Wild child stay wild

Random selfie. Because I like

Hung out with my aunt and uncle yesterday. They migrated almost 40 years ago and I haven't seen them in more than 10 years before this, but this is my second time meeting them this year.

#progress

Aunt is the slightly younger sister of my dad. Second child. Yesterday she revealed that she was the "samseng" when they were kids. Dad was the quiet good boy, and she was the ... boy.

I said it's a second child thing. And she said to me, from a wild child to a wild child: Stay Wild.

I should. Why lose myself to outside pressure and get nothing in return other than an identity crisis?

So

 Stay wild, stay curious.

Royals...?

Is it ironic that Lorde is now "royal"?

Lorde, the 17 going 18 girl who shot to fame for a song about anti-materialism in music, is the current music royalty, (which usually is overthrown very soon after, yet, royalty). Can she withstand the temptation of turning herself into living irony?

The thing about materialism is that it's easier to brush it off when you know you can't afford it. That Prada bag? That Berkin Kelly? Meh. Not interested. Because I know even if I could save enough money to get even one of them, big names just don't fit into a small bank account.

The real test of "royalty syndrome" starts when you have the money. If you're from a middle-class family, it's easier to give the "I want a better life for my family" excuse. It's a legitimate reason, of course, but the question is: when do you stop? I think it would usually be when you turn around, you'll realize "oh **** (insert appropriate 4 letter curse word), what have I become?", which is a little too late.

I have a lot of friends and acquaintances who complain A LOT about first world problems. You think your problems are big? Go to an undeveloped country, or even our neighboring less developed countries and take a look.

I didn't take a trip, but I know the pain of some. I help support a child from Vietnam, with the help of World Vision MY. I didn't know what I was getting into at first. I think I heard of it through one of my friends about "adopting" a child, and my favorite question came up: Why not?

I was just earning RM1.8k, with rent, living expenses and bills to fully pay by myself. So I'd like to hear your excuse on not having money.

When I started this "support", I didn't do much research. (Typical me.) But everything is explained plainly in the website. I signed up, and I just had to give RM50 per month, and I'm helping someone. The price has now been increased to RM65, but hey, it's RM15 more. Pretty sure that's just one meal's payment for a lot of city dwellers.

So what did I learn from this child sponsorship?

They're happy to have electricity and running water at home. No kidding. The first annual report I received had this in check. They actually made it a point to report to us that they have electricity and running water in their community.

Meanwhile, in KL, people are complaining about traffic jams and slow internet speed. Look at us.

"First world problems".

Everyone reading this, I'm assuming that you're not struggling financially. You have internet connection, free time, and a gadget to read a blog on. If you could save *RM65/RM80 every month (highly possible), you are able to help sponsor a child, and help an entire community. The money from your contribution goes to the entire community your sponsored child lives in.

You can be part of the solution to the question : What if the answer to cure cancer is trapped in someone who can't afford an education?

If you're saying you can't save up RM65 each month to help a whole community, I don't believe you.

I know for a fact that most of my friends are quite well off. If you stay with your parents and is working a full time job, don't give me crap excuses. Cut down on your entertainment expenses. Buy less Chatime, Starbucks, make up, nail polish, hair products, games, whatever your drug is, and give that blardy money to someone who actually needs it, instead of the huge corporations or over-priced shops.

I'm not judging you for spending all that money. Just saying that it would be nice to help someone with it. Remember that in the eyes of some, we are already living the life of royals.

Maybe I'm giving to help kill that guilty conscious I get when I buy un-necessities, or when I'm eating at an over-priced restaurant; maybe I'm actually just faking the generosity and just want recognition as a nice person; maybe I genuinely want to help someone less fortunate. It doesn't matter, I'm helping. Why won't you?

That's what J_Fish has to say~ Au Revoir~

就算没钱,辛苦上班回家后,还有个手背可以窝;

Alternate Rock Make Up Tutorial *UPDATED*

*NEW UPDATE*

The finale for Converse #GetLoud competition has been changed to 6 Oct instead of 5 October!!

xxxx

After doing so many "costume party make up",
I think it's time to do tutorials for something that we can use more often.

I was thinking what look to go for for awhile now, and then this came along.

Converse is organizing GET LOUD Gig Tour,
and *lightbulb*
I'm going to do an alternate "rocker" make up.

Alternate rock as in another version of rock make up,
not the genre. =X

Alternate because rather than the usual full black eyeshadow and think black eye liner "Avril Lavigne" look,
I'm rocking other colours.

Starting with a clean face.

Using a blue eyeshadow,
draw it on your lid as if it's your eyeliner.
Flick it up slightly at the end.

After the line is set, slowly make the flick a lot longer.
The trick is to extend the liner a little bit pass your original eye length, then change the angle and draw it upwards, little by little.
Draw the line towards your temples.

Draw a thin line of black eyeliner with a small flick
As you can see, the blue has gotten below the eyes too,
but it's ok.

Here's how it looks with eyes closed.
Not messy.

Next,
I used a liquid liner with a fine tip
to draw a thin line on the frame of my eyes.
From end to end.
Make sure the line towards the inner corners are thinnest.

I smudged a little black shadow (with the blue shadow used for the eyelid) under my eyes,
blurring the black line that was just drawn.

It turns out to be smokey-ish,
but still softer than the usual rock look.
Brush on some blush and a light lipstick.

The final step- adding false lashes.

The final look with eyes closed

The lashes completes the overall look.

Serious face with alternate rock make up.

The eye make up is almost smokey,
but when eyes are closed,
everything looks clean.

Since the eyes look bold enough,
I don't want to go with a dark lipstick.
Just keep the focus on the eyes.

Panoramas of my Bangkok trip

I've been so lazy to do anything lately I even used an obvious title.

So here are all the panorama pics that I took with my phone for my trip to Bangkok 2 weeks ago.
First day and day 4 and 5 were shopping day so no time to take pics!!! LOL

So here are the pics from day 2 and 3.
5th day was goodbye day so no panorama pics too.

We took a "tour" to Ayuthaya, the Melaka of Thai.
The above pictures were from different historical sites and temples.
It was interesting to find that 99% of the figures were decapitated while the rest of the bodies were fully intact,
even for the carvings in stone.

It was scorching hot but the trip was interesting and quite worth the money.
It costed us 3500baht for 3 for the entire trip (which took 1 whole day) including transport to all the places and Chocolate Ville,
as pictured below.

Part of the view from top of the lighthouse in Chocolate Ville, a little outside Bangkok City.
A wonderful place to take pics and just chill after a long day's walk.

Then we went to the Grand Palace, as pictured below.

We're not allowed to enter it other than the museums at the bottom.
It featured badass looking weapons they used in their past wars, but we weren't allowed to take pictures.

The Grand Palace is connected to Wat Phra Kaew.

A picture taken while on the Chao Phraya River, on the way to Asiatique, an open air concept shopping place.

I'll be updating about the trip later, though not sure how far later since next week is quite packed for me. Maybe I'll find time while I'm procrastinating. =p

If there's anything that you would like me to elaborate on, tell me and I'll make it a post instead of (probably) jumbling the whole trip into 1 post.

That's what J_Fish has to say~ Au Revoir~

Wrong group, right motivation

The group: Nuffnang Fashion Fabulous.
The reason it's the wrong group: I think it's pretty obvious.

I was invited to the Nuffnang Fashion Fabulous group gathering yesterday,
22 April 2013.

I was held in The Warehouse on Jalan Tun H S Lee.
I've never been there before but thanks to the help of Yat, I got there without getting lost.
*sigh of relief*
(Because I usually get lost whenever I drive to KL)

Anyway,
when I got there, there were 3 brands preparing their display,
which we would later rummage through in hopes of finding the perfect outfit.

Pestle and Mortar Clothing's display

The Warehouse is quite the artsy place.
They have a whole wall almost full of paintings.

Their "mini bar"

And being the artsy place,
even their toilet has graffiti

with message that escalated quickly.

A "mini cafe" at the back of the shop

And a stairway to somewhere I didn't explore yesterday.

Hi. I took pictures and spammed my instagram timeline
because I didn't know anyone at that time and was pretending to be busy.

Bought my necklace in the bazaar at The Curve.

And after waiting for those who came late to arrive *cough cough*
We finally started the event around 45 mins later.

Come on la. I drove from Subang to KL and managed to be early,
anyone who lives within that range should have a really good excuse.
(like getting lost. Highly acceptable excuse. Really. =X)

First, the representative from phatculture gave a brief introduction.

Next was Milktee's turn
I like their clothes the most.

And lastly Arnold (dj of Hitz.fm) gave an introduction to his brand, Pestle and Mortar.

After the introduction, Sue Anne told us about the challenge.
The challenge is to form a team of 2 and pull together an outfit from the clothes there.
Since the other girls seem to know each other and already formed a clique before I even talked,
I formed a team with Wendy, who, like me, looked like she didn't know any of the girls too.

(ok I don't know if that's true, but that was what her expression said. =X)

Anyway, off we go combing the racks of clothes,
and waiting to change into those outfits.
And while we're at that,
finger food was provided.

Personal favourite. :3 Probably because I like eggs.
And the toast was crispy.

I didn't like this at all. =/

I didn't try this. --____________--lll

Ok so this was my second attempt. My first attempt was pairing the top from Milktee with a faux leather skirt from Milktee. Like I said, I like their clothes. But that didn't turn out too good because... I have bad taste and pulling an outfit together at short notice is not a good idea for me.

The skirt in the pic above was actually what I wore to the event. I wore t-shirt and a skater skirt to a fashion fabulous event. See why I say I'm in the wrong group? --__________--lll

I decided to change into these ripped jeans from Milktee. I never had ripped jeans,
and these looked kinda cool, and you can't go wrong with black pants,
so yeah, that's basically how I dress up. The safe way.

My first "acceptable" outfit.
Top and ripped jeans from Milktee.
The top has a name, and it's a girl's name too. *cue Mulan's voice*

I forgot to have a waist.

After that I decided to try out other clothes,
and in the end settled with this cropped top.

Took a shot with JQ because we were both wearing tops from Pestle and Mortar.
I was looking at another camera I swear.
It's the unintentional "look away from camera" look.
=X

After that it was my self-proclaimed camwhore time.

Snapback and top from Pestle and Mortar.

I've never tried the snapback look before,
but I kinda like it now. =D

My cropped top is available and on sale here (as of the time of writing).
It only comes in 1 size (size 12).

Wendy's first outfit from Phatculture.
A very cute lace dress.
She was quite insecure because she's not exactly a size S
(which is what online "free size" basically mean)
but she managed to find something in the end. =)

Wendy's second outfit.
Top from Milktee skirt from Phatculture.

Our team shot. =D

Ok the pictures are quite grainy coz it was taken at the stairs which is too dark for my phone's cam.
Tsk tsk.

I prefer the close up shot but it didn't really showcase the clothes.
Well my outfit anyway.

If you think that our outfit deserves an obamaface,
help us win products from Melvita bright range by commenting here. Do mention that you love our outfit. *points at no.3.*... or not.

Although the other girls rocked, they're so fair liao they dun need brightening products la. =X Our team is the tanned girls group. *cough cough*

I ended up with the t-shirt and jeans because I suck at coordinating and it's quite hard to go wrong with a white t-shirt and black jeans. LOL. Sadness.
I should be banned from this group. --____________--lll

Anyway,
I guess being in this group is a good motivation for me to buck up
and really look into fashion.
Doesn't seem like I learned a lot from all those ViVi mags I have piled up. tsk.

Bangkok, I will comb you inside out and rob you of fashionable clothes!! Just wait!!

That's what J_Fish has to say~ Au Revoir~
p.s. Vote for me. Please.

Blogging with comic isn't that easy

So you might notice,
I like to draw.

I use to draw a lot on scrap paper when I was in highschool.
Something like this.

Though the above drawing was quite recent,
my old drawings were mostly like that,
only eyes, half a face.

I would cut up the scrap paper at home
and make it into a small booklet tied together with raffia string,
chuck it in my school bag, and bring it to school everyday.

I never finished using any of them.
Because being the typical me,
I keep losing them.

Now I've transferred to drawing on my own face instead.
Because drawing on paper is too mainstream.

Comic version of myself.

I still doodle on the back of receipts sometimes.

You know, because office jobs could get pretty boring sometimes.

As you can see,
my drawing style is a little more detailed + anime version.

Too much details, takes too much time.

I did try to use Adobe Illustrator.

But in the end, it takes MORE time to just do 1 simple panel.
Because I have yet to really learn the skills.

And I suck at matching colours.

I did think of venturing into comic blogging for about 2 weeks.

But the thing about comic blogging
is how to making long, long posts
into short, concise (and funny) stories.

Which is what I suck at.
I need teachers.

Who better to learn all that from
than our rising comic bloggers
Chee Ching and Ernest over a good cup of coffee and some food from CAFFeine?
=D

Nuffnang is holding their first ever Comic Bloggers Gathering,
and Chee Ching and Ernest will both be there to let us bore them with stupid questions.

Like everyone else who wants to go,
I have questions that I want to ask.
I have stories I want to hear.
I have inspirations that I want to get inspired by.

But most of all,
I want to draw on a canvas wall.

Just kidding.

Okay I lied.

I do wanna draw on the canvas wall,
but I want to know their secret (if they choose to share) to success.

How they started and where do they intend to go.
Where will they see themselves in the future?
Animation? Or comic books?

and other questions...

I'm curious.

And also, I want to know if I ever do venture into comic blogging,
who are the competition I need to take out.
Because I could only imagine that the people who are there
are the ones who are interested in comic blogging too.

*flashes knife*

So to bribe you,
here's another hand drawn comic version of myself.
Also drawn on the back of a receipt.

That's what J_Fish has to say~ Au Revoir~
