Unrelated picture, but I love it.
you'll notice that I posted a notice that says I've changed my link temporarily to thegirlsam.blogspot.com.
If you were neither,
good for you coz it was just stupid.
That was all caused by my own stupidity,
but I'm writing this in hope that if someone is as stupid as me
(please tell me I'm not alone in this. >____________<)
you'll know how to solve the problem.
I need to explain the scenario
(which will be in grey,)
but I'll sidetrack a lot,
(which will be in yellow)
but if you're curious enough,
you'll get to the end.
Eventually.
But in case you're lazy,
here's the solution part.
"I figured that if I changed my URL,
the old URL will be up for grabs again,
So I changed the new empty watjfishwantstosay to watsamwantstosay
just so that watjfishwantstosay is available for registration
and I changed my old blog's URL from thegirlsam/sherlynnt.com
back to watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com"
but you have to read the rest of the post for it to make sense. =p
Scenario:
I wanted to change my blog url to thegirlsam.blogspot.com
Because it's shorter and easier to remember.
Extra information:
Sam is my "alter ego name"
a.k.a the name I like but I didn't get when I was born.
Because unless my parents are psychic,
they won't know that I like this name.
Back to scenario explanation
so I changed it to thegirlsam.blogspot.com
and forgot about it
until shii teck asked me why he can't access my blog later that night.
That was after a few hours
and I dunno how many ppl saw the
"this blog has been removed" notice. =(
The above is Act of stupidity 1:
changing my url before informing anyone
AND
didn't change it back to the more familiar one.
So when he asked me,
I checked and instead of changing the url back to the long old one,
I got a custom domain.
Because it makes me feel more atas. =/
(The custom domain is going to last only for a year
because my blog doesn't earn enough per year to cover the cost.)
So I got my custom domain from Google
www.sherlynnt.com which only cost $10. (that's USD, not SD) =P
I thought it would cost hundreds of dollars,
but well $10 is still bearable since I'm working now.
So back to thegirlsam.blogspot.com.
(which is watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com with a shorter url,)
I got my custom domain before changing it back to watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com
so at that time, my blog is stuck with thegirlsam.blogspot.com
which will be redirected to www.sherlynnt.com
(instead of the old crazy long url being redirected.)
Once I got my custom domain,
I realize that I can't change "thegirlsam" back to "watjfishwantstosay".
Act of stupidity 2:
Not changing back to my old URL before getting custom domain.
So now imagine a person keeping the old body but has a new name.
That was how my blog would have felt like
if it had feelings.
People won't be able to find my blog
coz it's now stuck with 2 new URLs. WTF.
I typed in watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com
and it says the blog was not available,
but the address is available to be registered.
So straight away I took back the URL
and registered it as a new blog.
(because I was afraid that someone might take it)
Act of stupidity 3:
Thinking that people would want a long ass URL
that only makes sense to people who are also called Jfish.
It's ok I'll do it myself.
*rolls eyes* and then faces palm.
So now I'm stuck with a new blog under the URL watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com
but it's empty and definitely not what ppl are looking for when they type in that URL.
So I posted a note there that ask ppl to manually redirect to my old blog with 2 new URLs.
That was my temporary solution.
Hi,
are you asleep yet?
WAKE UP!!
There, I just yelled at you through my blog. =D
Now that hopefully you're awake and still here,
keep reading please.
You won't know,
it just might happen to you or someone you know.
I'm going to skip the whole panic and frustration and go to how I solve it.
So,
if you're confused now,
here's a summary of the story till now.
Summary
1. Changed url and didn't change back to old one.
2. Got custom domain before changing back to old URL.
3. Blog stuck with new url and custom domain.
4. Got old URL back and made it a new blog in case ppl decide to take it.
5. Post notice on new empty blog in case ppl visit my old URL.
There.
Now the solution.
I first figured that if I delete the new blog with old URL watjfishwantstosay,
the URL will be open for registration again.
But it takes 90 days,
but then the ppl who didn't get the notice would've thought I stopped blogging.
Super sad face.
Then when I gave up and tried to sleep,
my brain functioned!!
I figured that if I changed my URL,
the old URL will be up for grabs again,
So I changed the new empty "watjfishwantstosay" to "watsamwantstosay"
just so that "watjfishwantstosay" is available for registration
and I changed my old blog's URL from thegirlsam / sherlynnt.com
back to watjfishwantstosay.blogspot.com
So now my old blog has it's old URL with a custom domain.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!
Tada!!
If that's what you wanted to know,
thanks for reading here,
but please scroll down to the very end of this post.
I have a question that needs answers.
Do visit back soon. =D
If you're interested in the frustration,
read on.
I told Shii Teck about the problem
and he helped me ask around
and he found Rachel Yen
who helped me figure out the solution.
Lots of thanks to the both of them. X)
Back to after I temporarily solved the problem,
I still want my blog to have it's old URL back,
instead of having ppl manually redirecting to the new URL.
So I tried redirecting the new watjfishwantstosay
by trying to add my custom domain to it,
but 1 custom domain can only be redirected from 1 blog.
To make my new blog more convincing,
I imported my old blog posts and the red tomato template
into my new blog.
(if you don't get it,
go to the new blog.
It kinda looks like my old blog.
Then Rachel suggested that I should delete my old blog
so that my new blog can be the old blog since it has to old URL.
It's ok if you don't understand.
But well I first figured that it should be the other way around.
So I deleted the new blog with old URL,
but as you read,
it takes 90 days to completely delete the blog.
I googled it up,
and the people say if I delete the blog,
the URL will not be open for registration immediately,
and it might take years for it to be available again.
So I undeleted the blog.
and that was it.
If you want to know how to import/export your blog, ask.
If you want to know how to save your template in case of misfortunes,
ask.
It's very easy but I'm too lazy to type.
If someone, even 1 person wants to know,
I'll write a new post about it.
I have 1 last question for ya'll,
Should I have a facebook page for the blog
so that I can update you if anything like this happens again?
Would you "like" it?
that's what J_Fish has to say~ Au Revoir~
p.s. Please do leave a comment and tell if you'll like the FB page for my blog.
